How much time do you spend at work vs doing other things? If you're earning a living or even if you're a student, chances are you're spending a whole lot of time hustling through the day. Some days go by quickly, but others seem to be endless and the only thing on your mind is how fast you can get out of there. However, being at work doesn't have to be unpleasant, you can actually turn it around and make it your favourite place to hangout (or at least improve your work days significantly) .
Hands down, the most important element to improve your mood at work. If you have a choice in the matter, definitely sit in a place where you can get at least a bit of natural light. If that's not really an option for you, here are a couple of things you can do:
- Go outside at least once during the day to catch some rays
- Try light bulbs that are "Bright White/Cool White" (3500K – 4100K), or "Daylight" (5000K – 6500K). These would be brighter than your regular yellowy light bulbs and will keep you more awake/alert. We recommend trying a floor lamp or desk lamp with adjustable light temperature such as this one. You can switch it up depending on your vision and energy levels.
It is common knowledge that having some kind of white noise or beat in the background can help you stay focused and uplift your mood.
Here is a previous blog post we wrote about listening to music while you work. We even included our own Spotify playlist which you can follow!
Stimulate your senses by defusing your favourite essential oil blends. We also highly recommend spraying our Focus Mist at the start of your day or during mid-day energy dips when an extra boost is needed. The mist will refresh and relax you and help you focus.
4. Interior Design and Deco
Here are things you can add to even the ugliest work areas to make it a much nicer space:
1- Plants - Greens are the #1 best thing you can have on your desk, you can get a succulent, a snake plat or a huge monstera. It doesn't matter as long as you take good care of it.
2- Artwork - Find nice, inspiring prints to hang around
3- Personal items - A photo of your pet or family can motivate you even during the hardest times
4- Crystals and gemstones. holding crystals or just having them around can shift the energy and raise the vibrations in the room. Each different type of stone vibrate at set frequency. Crystal healing uses different stones and their corresponding vibrations to open and access different parts of the body, mind, and spirit.
Here are 5 crystals for productivity: Clear Quartz (for concentrating energy), Tiger's eye (for resolving conflicts), Citrine (for enhancing concentration), Green Aventurine (peace and clarity), and Fluorite (for anxiety),
*Note: If your space is disorganized, none of the above will matter. Make sure to throw away anything you don't need and sort papers and items nicely in well labeled bins or drawers.
5. Posture and Movement
You're not going to like this one as much but you need to get off your butt and stretch your legs every once in a while. Relieve your body tension and increase blood circulation by doing a few stretching exercises (ie: Touching your toes, raising your arms while breathing etc...).
Lastly, be ware of your posture and comfort. elevate your screen at eye level, invest in an ergonomic chair or use a standing desk from time to time.
- Fruit water and herbal tea: nothing says spa more than a fresh cup of water with cut cucumbers and mint! So simple, yet so effective at tricking you to feel pampered.
- Get yourself a Focus Journal to keep track of all your positive habits and balance productivity and wellness ;)
