Behind "Trobla"!

Matej is one of the founders behind Trobla, the amplifier for smart phones made of 100% wood! Trobla raised over 58,000 USD on kickstarter and has sold thousands of units worldwide. It is currently produced in Slovenia and it is available through our shop! Find out more about Trobla's story in the interview below.

1. What was the driving force behind creating this product?

Each year humans produce millions of hard to recycle electronic waste. All of our iPhones, computers and other pieces of technology end up on that pile of e-waste. We wanted to create a product that was part of that evolving tech world but was at the same time made entirely out of wood, which is one of the most sustainable materials. At the same time we really wanted to create a product that was usable and delivered good sound.

2. What’s one thing you want people to know about TOK TOK?

Probably that it was started by friends with a good idea and ended up conquering the world through crowdfunding.

3. How does TOK TOK #makeworkbetter?

Listening to music makes work better and our amplifier does exactly that. Plus you can make skype calls on it.

4. Tell us about your team?

We are a group of friends with passion for wood. We started messing around in an old workshop and made a business out of it. Martin is an industrial designer, Andrej is a master mosaic builder and I have a media background.

5. What makes your working day better? (This can be person, place, object, product, activity, process, event, bar, coffee shop, anything!)
Definitely a good notebook with blank pages. It allows me to pour my thoughts on the paper in whatever shape or form it fits me. Another important thing are regular brakes to keep the productivity levels high throughout the day.

6. Tell us your thoughts on the current coworking/freelance/remote worker/entrepreneurial landscape in Vancouver?
Vancouver is a very entrepreneurial city with amazing people working on so many different and interesting things. Coworking spaces are a great hub for many companies to start or expand their business. You get to meet a lot of people and make useful connections in those places.
